  • The sporting event has donated €1,000 to APNEEF (Association of People with Special Needs of Ibiza and Formentera), the charity of the fourth edition of this event held on 2 October.

The organisers of the Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon have donated their proceeds to the APNEEF association (Association of People with Special Needs of Ibiza and Formentera), the charity organisation of the fourth edition of the event held on 2nd October. The amount donated was €1,000, an amount obtained largely thanks to the contribution of two euros made by those registered during the registration process. Thus, the organisation decided to count on this cause for its 4th edition with the aim of supporting young people and children who are in a situation of disability.

In addition, the Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon collaborated with APNEEF on the day of the race by organising a symbolic race in the port of Ibiza for the young members of the non-profit association. In this way, the members of the NGO ran the first 100 metres of the most important race on the island, passing through the starting arch and receiving the finisher’s medal.

Thus, the Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon consolidates the race’s commitment to solidarity, as since its first edition, the organisation has been promoting a charitable aspect to support the island’s most disadvantaged groups.  The director of the event, Francisco Larrey reaffirms in this sense: “We are very proud to be able to collaborate with the social projects that are being carried out on the island of Ibiza. Our aim is that the Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon, as well as being a first class tourist attraction, is also an engine of solidarity to support initiatives as necessary as those of APNEEF”.

APNEEF, an essential work on the island

APNEEF assists children and young people with physical, mental, sensory and/or cognitive disabilities, helping them to fully develop their autonomy and facilitating their integration into society through personalised therapies, guidance and family accompaniment, as well as awareness-raising activities among the public. To this end, this association has a team of 30 professionals from the social and therapeutic areas, as well as leisure and free time.

Speech therapy, paediatric physiotherapy, therapeutic psychomotor therapy, social skills, pedagogy and psychology are just some of the services offered by APNEEF with a view to improving the quality of life of people with special needs living on Ibiza and Formentera. Aware of its great work since its foundation in 1998, the organisation of the Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon has decided to take advantage of its convening and mobilisation power to give it visibility and, in turn, ensure its viability.
