The Ibiza Marathon, Ibiza 21K + 21K Relay and Ibiza 12K aim to create a unique event on the island with a very important social and supportive aspect. The organisers encourage all the inhabitants to cheer on the athletes who will participate in the island’s largest sports event which, in addition to its leisure and sporting aspect, also wishes to address social issues by helping those in need. To this end, Proyecto Juntos has been chosen as a charitable entity linked to the event.
The organisers wish to support this association, which offers non-medical assistance to children with cancer on the islands of Ibiza and Formentera, by providing a charitable contribution of €2, which many runners have already donated during their registration process.
The non-profit association assists children with cancer and their families, both economically and psychologically, by providing support both during and after treatment. Proyecto Juntos also organises a series of leisure activities and occupational workshops, as well as a voluntary programme of hospital and home visits, in addition to a series of cancer prevention campaigns.
In addition to its work on the island, the association has recently promoted a new means of support for the neediest children in the developing world. Proyecto Juntos has embarked on an exciting and altruistic initiative to defend and promote the right to education of children in countries such as Madagascar and Tanzania.
All runners who have not yet made their charitable contribution to the trial can make their donation on the Proyecto Juntos stand at the Expo Ibiza Marathon, which will provide information on the charitable entity, and details of the actions it will perform during the race to encourage the runners along the route to the finishing line, and the many ways to become involved and help such a special and supportive project as this, to help youngsters in need who suffer from cancer and face a long-distance race like this every day.
